MEDIA HUB

UNC Media Hub is a cohort of students from various concentrations within UNC-Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media who collaborate to produce top-tier integrated media packages covering stories across North Carolina.

I was referred to this course as a graphics producer and chose to specialize in motion graphics. My time at Media Hub allowed me to explore the relationship between storytelling and animation.

Before the Big Bang

This was my first time creating and overseeing animations for a long-form documentary piece. This documentary focuses on the origin of the universe told through the lens of renowned theoretical physicist and UNC professor, Laura Mersini-Houghton. I worked with another graphics producer on the Media Hub team to bring Mersini-Houghton’s concepts to life with a series of animated gifs shown below.

“We’re easing back into this”: UNC balances academics and mental health following COVID-19

“We’ve had to work in stressful situations and we’ve learned to adapt,” she said. “I think for people who are undergraduates, this is the first – for most of them – major situation that they’ve been through. Their only point of reference is the pandemic.”
